Travelling with kids - Holiday Essentials for Parents
Now that restrictions have been eased and more holiday destinations are opening up to us, perhaps it's time to venture a little further afield once more? But can that still be done with kids in tow??! Yes, yes and yes. Honestly. Here's a speedy guide to travelling with kids, with some holiday essentials for parents that you might want to take note of…

Plan, plan and plan some more

Gone are the days when you could throw a few bits into a bag and jet off to the unknown! When you’ve got kids, you need to become a master in planning- because a trip away with small people requires a lot of preparation!

  • Make a list for everything: what to pack (in your suitcase, your hand luggage, your changing bag, your washbag, etc.), what to bring to entertain, what to bring to feed, and what to bring for emergencies. Packing lists are essential— and don’t forget to tick off each item as you pack them. You can even write where you packed everything to save some shuffling around later!

  • Book in advance. Not just your travel tickets and accommodation- book your days out and restaurant reservations before you travel. This will eliminate upset and disappointment once you arrive on holiday and will cut down on time spent waiting around too. Kids and boredom are not a great mix on holiday!

  • Research your destination and facilities. Make sure you know what’s ahead of you before you travel. We recommend making an itinerary for each day, but we know this isn’t everyone’s style.

  • Think about your sleeping situation before you go, including napping during travel days and sleeping arrangements once you reach your destination. It’s a great idea to plan your journey around nap times if you can, but if not, then be prepared for some disruption to sleep schedules. And don’t forget to bring any comforters that your little one relies on for sleep to make bedtimes a little easier while you’re away.
