In our experience, house cleaning is a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it. But that doesn’t stop us asking questions like “how often should I really be doing a deep clean?” or “what does a ‘normal’ cleaning schedule look like when you’ve got kids?”
So we set out on a mission to create a possible schedule to help busy parents with the deep cleaning. But of course, this is only a suggested schedule, so if you have a routine that works for you, that’s great. (And also, we’d love to hear your tips!) As we’re all parents here at Nimble, we know how hard it can be to stay on top of the housework when the kids are running riot! So, with that said, the following schedule might come in handy…
Daily cleaning
In an ideal world, these are the tasks that probably should get done every day:-
Kitchen – clean surfaces, declutter areas such as the table, or the worktops, wipe down the microwave, oven, and other surface areas and appliances such as the kettle or coffee machine
-
Bathroom – wipe down surfaces, loo seat, sink, shower and bath
-
Bedrooms – make beds, air the rooms, pick up clutter
-
Living areas – vacuum, tidy, wipe down surfaces, door handles and light switches
We recommend our Sticky Stopper for easy, natural cleaning of surfaces, toys, floors, playmats and more
Weekly cleaning
In an ideal world, these tasks are once a week treats:
-
Kitchen – mop the floor, clean out the microwave
-
Bathroom – clean all surfaces and floor, clean toilets, bath and shower, replace towels
-
Bedrooms – change the beds
-
Living areas – vacuum carpets, including stairs, mop floors and polish mirrors
We recommend our best-selling Laundry Lover and Cuddle Lover for fresh smelling, super clean bedding.
Monthly cleaning
Once a month, work time into your schedule for these tasks:
-
Kitchen – clear out the fridge and wipe it down inside. Throw away expired food and re-arrange items, so they’re easily accessible
-
Living areas – dust blinds, clean behind sofas, clean skirting boards and windowsills
The Deep clean
Despite keeping on top of the above, now and then, we all need a deep clean. Although, if you do manage to stay on top of the tasks on a weekly and monthly basis, then there’s a really good chance that a deep clean can be over and done with quickly, which is excellent news all around!
Deep cleaning tasks include thorough cleaning behind all heavy furniture (beds, wardrobes, etc.), carpet cleaning, window cleaning, duvet and mattress cleaning, rigorous bathroom cleaning, and any appliances. How often should I do a deep clean?
The answer to this is that is depends! In considering your options, review the all-important question of what you think to be a deep clean— it’s different for everyone! For some, it’s a full carpet shampoo, curtains down, and every appliance scrubbed down. For others, it’s less intense.
For this reason, it’s probably a good idea to break the task down into smaller and more manageable chunks that you can spread out over a longer period. This will make the job a lot less daunting, but it will help you plan out your time too. Maybe you could choose to clean the carpets one month and tackle the bedrooms the next.
